Spectre of Intention Tonya Macalino 9780983630302 Books
Centered around the finalization of a space elevator, we find out that our main character is a bit different than everyone else. Kaitlyn/Ashley is a flawed, and possibly a criminal, woman just trying to live a normal life without getting caught. Having a boss who also pulls double duty as her champion helps. With complex lives comes conflict and who shows up but her ex-boyfriend, Stephan, still doing crime and his crews target; the space elevator project, of course. I found Kaitlyn exasperating because she would not tell anyone what was going on and it just made things worse unnecessarily. That whole dual personality thing going on had me wondering if she was cracked in the head after all. Moving the plot along could have been another way in my opinion. That may be my selfish wish to have seen her much stronger from the beginning instead of getting there towards the end when all hell has already broken loose and she has no other choice.Speaking of the last third of the story, it is a 'can't put it down' ride that vindicates the author. My only beef is that I wanted to know more about Stephan because he seemed more intriguing. If you want a combination of suspense, romance, and some paranormal then this is the book you need to pick up. A medium paced read you can take your time on.

Spectre of Intention Tonya Macalino 9780983630302 Books Reviews
Spectre of Intention is a fast-paced thriller with a paranormal twist. Kaitlin Osgood is a strong female lead with a dark secret in her past and the unique ability to sense people's intentions. Macalino includes enough sexual tension to keep your pulse pounding in more ways than one. This is a great book to pack to the beach or to curl up with by a fire.
I have not read a science fiction book in quite some time, but am very glad I picked this book up. An elevator into space, suspense, and romance. Who is this girl and why is she so afraid of her true itentity? I ejoyed learning about the space elvevator and some of the history of how we have tried to make our way into space over the ages. A great page turner, and a woderful read!
From the first few pages of reading I was addicted! I could not put the book down and wished the book had not ended. Caitlyn/Ashley and Cam were believable characters with real life struggles. I felt the author did a wonderful job bringing all the characters together.
This book is a mix of Sci Fi, the future, intrigue, and romance. While I am not a Sci-Fi reader Tonya wrote this book so woman will want to read it.
When I find an author I like I follow them and read everything book they write. I will definitely following Tonya!!
I'll start by echoing other reviews and say that Tonya Macalino's "Spectre of Intent" is a quick read that moves forward at a brisk, perhaps even relentless, pace. The premise is unique and well-researched, dotted with tidbits of pioneer history, and the high-tech cruise-ship setting supports both the techno-thriller and love-triangle-romance aspects of the plot. Kaitlin Osgood is a strong, engaging, sympathetic character with an intriguing past (who is Ashley? And what did she do? What is this "natural talent" she possesses?), surrounded by a supporting cast of fully fleshed out characters who pit Kaitlin's increasingly conflicting emotions against one another and challenge her to grow into the whole, complete woman she longs to be. The villains are bad, the heroes are good, and yet they all manage to rise above stereotypes and cardboard cutouts to become real people with real motivations that the reader can truly care about. All in all, a fabulous first novel, and one that I'm sure will build a fanbase eager for more of Macalino's work.
Elegant, self-assured Kaitlyn Osgood is in pursuit of the contract of a lifetime for herself and her employees at Countermeasures International overseeing counter-terrorism intelligence at the Earth-side platform for an elevator into space, from which dreamers, explorers, pioneers, misfits, and escapees can launch into the great Out There. Beneath the sophisticated shell of Kaitlyn, traumatized Ashley Porter hides in the shadows of a life invented to provide her with an escape from a dangerous past...and the dangerous people she shared it with.
Kaitlyn possesses the unique power of perceiving the intentions of others before they manifest in words and actions, a gift indispensable for her security work and, more critically, for keeping the ragged core of her being, Ashley, from emerging and destroying Kaitlyn's successful, precarious life. Her new work soon presents multiple threats to this fragile situation. She struggles with her growing attraction to Camden Glasswell, the platform's magnetic security director, for getting too close to him puts her in peril of revealing her secrets. She is hunted by Stephan Chen, a former lover and charismatic underworld figure from her old life who possesses similar paranormal abilities...as well as the ruthlessness to dominate others, Ashley especially. Jessie, a faithful colleague and friend, knows Kaitlyn's secrets, but his protectiveness and loyalty threaten to obstruct rather than help her.
This superlative, fast-moving novel has something for every reader suspense, plausible science for a near-future setting, original paranormal themes, romance with just the right amount of heat, and a tremendously likeable central character, the often uneasy, sometimes adversarial team of Kaitlyn and Ashley. The action-adventure component of the story, which launches from the first page and does not come in for a landing until the last page, provides a unique balance between the nostalgic science-fiction classics of space exploration and shades of contemporary thrillers. As an aficionado of cross-genre fiction, I have read novels where the different genres blend into an enjoyable whole and others where the differing elements jar. Spectre of Intention is a robust, engaging, and always successful blend. If you like reading character-driven fiction with a strong protagonist and a deft narrative style that never interferes with an old-fashioned ripping good yarn, then Spectre of Intention should be your next read.
