I've always thought of words like 'empowerment' as jargon words. I felt I already HAD the power to do whatever I wanted, so why waste time on it? But when I read PowHer Play, I decided to give empowerment - and the author - a chance, and it changed my mind.
So many people aren't purposeful or intentional about their lives. That I DO understand. And Shantera Chatman walks readers through a series of questions designed to bring focus and intention to women. This book isn't just for women in business, either; whether they are leading a family or a large corporation, women will be able to take away useful tools and encouragement. As I read it, I spent a lot of time thinking about how to answer her questions. I recognized some positive things I already do, and I also was introduced to concepts I had never even thought about before. The book is designed to be read a bit at a time, allowing the reader the opportunity to reflect on each concept and each chapter before rushing ahead to the next one. Many of us could learn a lot from developing that habit as well.

This book was really easy to read. The author did a great job of telling her story and turning it into life lessons for the reader. This is a great book for book clubs and for the youth. I highly recommend it.
